COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, students are introduced to foundational concepts and research methodologies in psychology. The "Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology" (PSY4006-B) module teaches the basic principles of conducting and evaluating psychological research, including hands-on experience with both qualitative and quantitative data. "Thinking Psychologically at Bradford" (PSY4011-B) helps students develop transferable skills and introduces them to the department's research staff, fostering a deeper understanding of the psychology field. "Brain and Behaviour" (PSY4009-B) explores the anatomy and physiology of the brain, covering topics such as memory, learning, and sensory systems. "Conceptual Issues in Psychology and Mental Health" (PSY4012-B) delves into cultural, historical, and ethical perspectives on psychology, while "Understanding Social Development" (PSY4010-B) focuses on psychological theories of social behavior and group dynamics, incorporating team-based learning strategies.In Year 2, students build upon the foundation laid in the first year. "Cognitive Psychology" (PSY5008-B) covers human cognitive processes, perception, language, and emotion, emphasizing experimental methods used to study cognition. "Social Psychology" (PSY5010-B) offers a comprehensive understanding of human behavior in social contexts, exploring group dynamics, individual differences, and ethical issues in research. "Further Research Methods in Psychology" (PSY5017-B) deepens students’ understanding of various empirical research methods. "Lifespan and Individual Differences" (PSY5015-B) critically examines developmental psychology and individual differences across the lifespan, promoting teamwork skills. "Psychobiology and Neuroscience" (PSY5009-B) investigates the biological basis of behavior, focusing on disorders like anxiety, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease.In the third year, students may choose to study abroad or undertake a placement year, gaining practical experience in the field. In the final year, the "Research Project in Psychology" (PSY6009-D) module enables students to conduct and report an independent empirical research project, consolidating their research skills and knowledge in a chosen area of psychology. This project serves as the culmination of their studies, preparing them for future professional or academic endeavors.
