COURSE CURRICULUM

This psychology and counselling program provides students with a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of psychology. In the first year, students learn key research methods, including qualitative and quantitative analysis, and develop skills in interpreting and conducting psychological research. Modules like "Thinking Psychologically at Bradford" and "Introduction to Counselling" introduce practical skills such as teamwork, critical evaluation, and basic counselling techniques, with an emphasis on personal development, ethics, and referencing. The "Brain and Behaviour" module covers topics such as the nervous system, sensory systems, and psychological theories of learning, memory, and personality. Additionally, students explore social development and the cultural and ethical issues within psychology.In the second year, the focus shifts to more specialized areas. "Issues in Counselling" examines theoretical approaches and ethical concerns in counselling, encouraging self-reflection. The "Social Psychology" module delves into group dynamics, behaviour change, and the impact of culture on social interactions. Students also gain deeper knowledge of research methods in psychology, exploring both qualitative and quantitative techniques. "Lifespan and Individual Differences" examines developmental psychology and individual variation across the lifespan, while "Cognitive Psychology and Psychobiology" builds on previous learning, exploring cognition and brain function with hands-on experience in assessments and neuroimaging.The third year offers a study abroad or placement option to gain practical experience in the field. In the final year, students engage in "Counselling in Practice," where they refine their therapeutic skills and learn to assess, treat, and evaluate clients. The program culminates in a research project focused on psychology and counselling, allowing students to conduct independent empirical research, consolidating their learning and expertise in their chosen area of focus. This comprehensive program prepares students for careers in therapy, research, or further academic study.
