COURSE CURRICULUM

The Forensic Science program offers a structured and diverse curriculum from Year 1 to the final year. In Year 1, foundational modules such as Introduction to Crime and Criminal Justice (SAC4007-B) provide an understanding of crime and justice, while Biological Anthropology: From Human Evolution to Forensic Anthropology (ARC4021-B) introduces students to human evolution and skeletal analysis in archaeological and forensic contexts. The Independent Study for Forensic Scientists (ARC4014-B) module fosters critical study skills and forensic knowledge, alongside Principles of Forensic and Crime Scene Investigation (ARC4016-B), which offers hands-on experience in crime scene investigation and evidence analysis. Other modules like Field Recording Skills (ARC4022-B) and Scientific Frameworks (ARC4013-B) introduce key investigative techniques and scientific methods used in forensic anthropology and archaeology. In Year 2, the curriculum builds upon these foundations with modules like Forensic Chemistry Crime Scene Investigation (ARC5031-B), which offers advanced crime scene processing techniques, and Forensic Examination and Analysis of Physical Evidence (ARC5020-B), focusing on evidence analysis and forensic standards. Other modules such as Statistics and Databases for Forensic Scientists (ARC5022-B) and Forensic Biology (ARC5032-B) deepen understanding of forensic data analysis and biological evidence in cases. Instrumental Analysis (ARC5034-B) introduces students to advanced analytical techniques used in forensic science. The third year offers a study abroad or placement year for practical experience. In the final year, students refine their skills with modules like Interpretation and Presentation of Forensic Evidence for Forensic Science (ARC6024-B), which focuses on the legal aspects of forensic evidence, and the Dissertation (ARC6025-D), a research project that allows students to apply their learned skills in a focused area of forensic science.
