COURSE CURRICULUM

The Forensic Science program offers a comprehensive curriculum spanning from Year 1 to the final year. In Year 1, students develop essential skills and knowledge, with modules like Independent Study for Forensic Scientists (ARC4014-B), which enhances study skills and forensic methods, and Principles of Forensic and Crime Scene Investigation (ARC4016-B), focusing on evidence types and hands-on crime scene experience. Other modules include Cell Biology (BIS4016-B) and Genetics (BIS4019-B), providing foundational knowledge in biomedical science and human genetics. Students also study Molecules of Life (BIS4017-B) and Introductory Microbiology (BIS4013-B), offering insights into molecular interactions and microbial health impacts. Year 2 delves deeper into forensic techniques with modules like Forensic Examination and Analysis of Physical Evidence (ARC5020-B), Statistics and Databases for Forensic Scientists (ARC5022-B), and Biometrics and Human Identification (ARC5006-B). The Virtual Anatomy for Forensic Sciences (ARC5017-B) module combines digital tools with traditional methods to study human anatomy for forensic applications. In the third year, students have the option of studying abroad or completing a placement year to gain practical experience. In the final year, advanced modules like Forensic Genetics (ARC6036-B), Forensic Anthropology (ARC6011-B), and Forensic Taphonomy (ARC6013-B) deepen understanding of human remains analysis, forensic identification, and degradation of evidence. Students also refine their skills in the Interpretation and Presentation of Forensic Evidence (ARC6024-B), learning the legal and statistical aspects of forensic testimony. The program concludes with a Dissertation (ARC6025-D), offering students the opportunity for independent research in a topic of their choice.
