COURSE CURRICULUM

First Year: The Legal System: Sources and Institutions module (LAW4010-B) introduces students to the sources and institutions of English and Welsh law, examining how law is made, developed, and applied in both the English legal system and its international context. It provides the conceptual and analytical tools necessary for studying substantive law. The Business Law and Ethics module (LAW4004-B) explores the importance of ethical considerations and their impact on law, business, and management practices, while also providing law students with key legal concepts relevant to business and enhancing commercial awareness. The Contract Law module (LAW4007-B) offers knowledge of legal principles related to the formation, content, and breakdown of contracts, helping students develop the ability to identify and respond to contractual issues both independently and in groups. The Introduction to Legal Skills module (LAW4009-B) focuses on developing legal academic skills, ethical awareness, and basic employability attributes. It introduces clinical legal skills and the importance of reflective learning and effective collaboration.Second Year: The Clinical and Employability Skills in Context module provides students with practical skills and knowledge necessary for both clinical settings and enhancing employability in the healthcare and legal professions. It focuses on developing essential competencies that bridge academic knowledge with real-world applications, equipping students with the expertise needed to effectively contribute in clinical environments and boost career prospects. The module emphasizes context-specific clinical scenarios, where students can apply their learning to actual practice, enhancing both technical and soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.Third Year: The Placement and/or Study Abroad module offers students an opportunity to gain practical experience in the legal or business field through placements or study abroad programs. This provides real-world exposure and a chance to apply academic knowledge in an international or professional context, enhancing personal and professional development.Final Year: Core modules include the choice between Law Dissertation, Law Dissertation (extended), or Final Year Business Project. The Law Dissertation allows students to conduct in-depth research on a legal topic of their choice, developing critical analysis and academic writing skills. The Law Dissertation (extended) offers a more extensive project for those seeking a deeper exploration of their topic. Alternatively, the Final Year Business Project enables students to apply business and management concepts to solve practical challenges or create new business opportunities, emphasizing responsible management principles, ethics, and sustainability.
