COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science program, students begin with the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Preformulation module (PHA4013-D), which introduces the core principles of preformulation, focusing on the physicochemical properties of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and excipients. The Human Physiology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology module (PHA4014-D) covers the biological foundation of human physiology, anatomy, and the biochemical processes that support life, alongside an introduction to microbiology and health-related pathophysiological changes. The Integrated Laboratory and Skills Development 1 module (PHA4015-D) integrates laboratory practice, focusing on safe handling of preformulation and biological experiments, quantitative analysis of results, and the development of employability skills with an emphasis on sustainability, ethics, and inclusivity.In Year 2, students explore the Fundamentals of Formulation Development and Manufacturing Technology module (PHA5016-D), which teaches the principles of pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulation and processing, with an emphasis on solid, semi-solid, and liquid formulations. The Sustainable Product Development module (PHA5017-B) examines theories, strategies, and tools for sustainable development, with a focus on green processing technologies, low-carbon formulations, and sustainability in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. The Marketing Management and Strategy in a Digital Age module (MAR5011-B) provides a critical understanding of strategic marketing in the digital era, offering students opportunities to engage with a marketing simulation. The Integrated Laboratory and Skills Development 2 module (PHA5018-D) deepens students' practical skills in formulation and processing, encouraging critical appraisal of emerging technologies and fostering collaboration skills.In the final year, students undertake a Placement in Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science to gain real-world experience. The Advanced Formulation Development and Manufacturing Technology module focuses on more advanced principles of formulation and manufacturing, preparing students for high-level industry challenges. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation: From Concept to Consumer module teaches students how to take a product from idea to market, covering entrepreneurship and innovation in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic fields. The Sustainable Packaging and Regulatory Affairs module addresses the role of packaging and regulatory requirements in product development, while the Integrated Laboratory, Research Project and Skills Development module combines research, practical laboratory work, and professional development, preparing students for their future careers.
