COURSE CURRICULUM
The occupational therapy program is designed to build knowledge and skills essential for becoming a professional occupational therapist. In Year 1, the Professional, Placement and Academic Skills module (OCT4500-B) introduces students to higher education and professional socialization. The Occupation module (OCT4501-B) covers the foundational concepts of occupation and occupational science. The Foundation Sciences module (OCT4502-B) focuses on understanding body structures and functions, exploring their influence on the relationship between occupation, health, and wellbeing. The Occupational Therapy Process module (OCT4503-B) introduces the process of occupational therapy, with a focus on assessing occupation. Evidence-Informed Practice (OCT4504-B) provides an overview of how different types of evidence can inform occupational therapy practice. The Occupational Therapy Placement 1 module (OCT4505-B) offers an opportunity to apply theory in real health and social care settings, developing professional and practical skills.In Year 2, the Occupation in Context module (OCT5504-B) encourages students to reflect on occupation and health from a broader perspective, considering the impact of wider determinants on health and occupational participation. The Leadership and Innovation for Occupational Therapists module (OCT5505-A) develops leadership qualities and the ability to drive innovation in public health and health promotion. Individual Occupational Therapy Interventions (OCT5500-B) focuses on developing students' skills for providing individual therapy, while the Group Occupational Therapy Interventions module (OCT5501-B) concentrates on group-based interventions. The Occupational Therapy Placement 2 module (OCT5502-C) allows students to further develop their skills through practice in real-world settings. Understanding and Evaluating Research (OCT5503-B) introduces research design and methods, teaching students how to search for, appraise, and develop a research proposal within the field of occupational therapy.In the final year, students undertake Occupational Therapy Placement 3, where they gain additional experience and refine their skills. The Evidence for Practice module focuses on integrating evidence into practice, and the Transition into Practice module prepares students for their transition into the workforce. Finally, the Occupational Therapy Placement 4 (LEAP) module offers an opportunity for students to apply their learning in a practical, professional setting as they prepare for graduation.
