COURSE CURRICULUM

This Nursing programme is designed to prepare students for professional nursing practice through a balanced combination of academic study, clinical training, and extensive practice-based learning. Throughout the course, students progressively develop the knowledge, practical skills, and professional values required to deliver safe, compassionate, and person-centred care across a variety of healthcare settings. In the first year, students build strong foundations through Nursing Foundations, which introduces the core principles, responsibilities, and professional standards of nursing practice. Understanding People and Health explores physical, psychological, and social factors that influence health and wellbeing, while Health and Wellbeing in Communities examines public health, health promotion, and community-based care. Person Centred Needs and Care Planning develops the ability to assess individual needs and create effective, evidence-based care plans tailored to patients. Students also complete Practice Learning – Part 1 and Practice Hours – Stage 1, gaining supervised clinical experience that allows them to apply classroom learning in real healthcare environments. During the second year, students enhance their clinical knowledge and leadership capabilities through Contemporary Perspectives in Nursing, which examines current healthcare challenges, and Leading and Managing Nursing Care, focusing on effective leadership, teamwork, and decision-making in clinical practice. Health Numeracy Assessment strengthens the mathematical skills required for safe medication administration and clinical calculations, while Implementing Person-centred Care and Evaluating Person-centred Care develop the ability to deliver, monitor, and assess high-quality nursing interventions. Practice Learning – Part 2 and Practice Hours – Stage 2 provide additional supervised placements that further strengthen clinical competence and confidence. In the final year, students prepare for registration as professional nurses by studying Critical Perspectives in Nursing, which encourages critical analysis of healthcare practice, and The Business of Caring, which explores healthcare management, policy, and resource allocation. Co-ordinating and Leading Care develops advanced leadership and care coordination skills, while Improving Safety and Quality of Care focuses on patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice. Students complete Practice Learning – Part 3 and Practice Hours – Stage 3, demonstrating professional competence across a range of clinical settings. Overall, the programme prepares graduates for successful careers as registered nurses capable of delivering high-quality, compassionate, safe, and evidence-based healthcare across diverse clinical environments.
