COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Renewable and Sustainable Energy provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding and applying renewable energy technologies, sustainability principles, and energy system design. The program is structured around four taught units, each worth 30 credits, covering renewable energy, environmental sustainability, electrical and electronic systems, and energy research, integrating traditional and modern engineering approaches to address future energy challenges. Students explore topics such as energy, environment, and economics, gaining practical experience through exercises, case studies, and real-world scenarios that emphasise sustainable energy solutions. The course also considers the social, economic, and legal aspects of energy generation, with opportunities to engage with professional organisations, attend guest lectures, and participate in field visits to understand real-world applications. Designed for students from diverse academic backgrounds—including engineering, environmental science, physics, and economics—the program accommodates those with varying levels of prior experience in renewable energy, encouraging a focus on clean energy innovation, policy, and carbon reduction. Training in Research Methodologies equips students with essential skills in data analysis, scientific investigation, and project planning, which are applied in the MSc Renewable and Sustainable Energy Project, allowing students to develop an artefact or solution relevant to their interests. Units are aligned with professional courses, enabling students to gain industry-recognised certifications alongside their academic qualifications, preparing graduates for careers in renewable energy design, consultancy, research, and sustainable infrastructure development.
