COURSE CURRICULUM

The Design MPhil program is a research-focused degree that enables students to explore a topic they are passionate about while developing advanced research, writing, and presentation skills. It provides an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and specialise in a chosen area of design through independent study and original research. At the beginning of the program, students receive comprehensive training, including general research methods, discipline-specific guidance, and project-based support, ensuring they are well prepared to carry out their research effectively and independently. The program is delivered within the Faculty of Education, Arts, Science and Technology, which hosts a wide range of research areas such as industrial and product design, sustainable settlement, material innovation, user-centred design, and building performance and energy efficiency. Students benefit from expert supervision throughout their studies, with experienced tutors providing regular guidance and feedback both in person and online. This ongoing support helps students meet their research objectives and maintain steady progress. Upon completion, graduates are well equipped to pursue careers in research and development within the design industry, progress into academic roles, or take on leadership and managerial positions in business.
