COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Social Work program at the University of Northampton includes a range of compulsory modules designed to develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for professional practice. The Professional Project module, worth 50 credits, allows students to undertake an in-depth, applied research or practice-based project that addresses a specific area of social work practice. This module encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of evidence-based approaches to real-world challenges, enabling students to demonstrate their ability to integrate academic learning with practical professional skills. Alongside this, the Safeguarding and Managing Risk module, worth 20 credits, equips students with essential knowledge and competencies to identify, assess, and respond effectively to risks faced by vulnerable individuals and groups. This module covers key aspects of safeguarding, risk assessment frameworks, and intervention strategies, ensuring that graduates are prepared to make safe, informed, and ethical decisions in complex and high-stakes situations.
