COURSE CURRICULUM

The Special Educational Needs and Inclusion MA program is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical understanding of supporting individuals with diverse learning needs in educational and social settings. The course offers a flexible structure with a wide range of optional modules, allowing students to tailor their studies according to their professional interests and career goals. Key areas of study include inclusion and diversity, autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional and mental health, physical disabilities, and intellectual and complex needs. Students also explore important topics such as literacy difficulties, including dyslexia, challenging behaviour, cultural and linguistic inclusion, and the impact of adverse childhood experiences on development. The program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, helping students develop effective strategies to support inclusive practices. Research plays a central role, with options to undertake research methods, an organisational-based project, a dissertation, or a research thesis, enabling students to engage in independent study and contribute to knowledge in the field. Leadership and management modules further prepare students to take on roles that involve coordinating and improving inclusive provision. Overall, the course equips graduates with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to promote equality and inclusion across a variety of educational and professional contexts.
