COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB Law Honours degree at the University of Northampton is structured over three years, combining core legal knowledge with optional modules that allow students to specialise according to their interests and career goals. In the first year, all modules are compulsory, including Learning the Law, UK and EU Constitutional Law, Law of Contract, Criminal Law, Ethics, Discrimination and Human Rights, and Current Legal Issues and Jurisprudence. Of these, Learning the Law, UK and EU Constitutional Law, Law of Contract, and Criminal Law are required for a Qualifying Law Degree, providing students with a solid foundation in essential legal principles. The second year builds on this foundation with compulsory modules such as Judicial Protection under UK and EU Law and Law of Tort, both also necessary for a Qualifying Law Degree. Students select four optional modules from a diverse range, including Law in Action, Criminal Litigation, Child and Family Law, Environmental Law and Justice, Organised Transnational Crime, Intellectual Property Law, Medical Law and Ethics, and Practical Placement Preparation, allowing tailored study and practical insight. In the final year, compulsory modules include the Law Dissertation, Law of Equity, Wills, Probate and Trusts, and Land Law, all required for a Qualifying Law Degree. Students also choose two optional modules from areas such as Business Law, Civil Litigation, Legal Skills in Practice, Human Rights, and IT Law. Across all three years, the program combines academic rigor with professional skill development, equipping graduates for careers as solicitors, barristers, or other law-related professions.
