COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Rehabilitation and Conditioning BSc degree at the University of Northampton is structured over three years to provide a progressive and comprehensive education in sports rehabilitation, conditioning, and injury prevention. In the first year, students build a foundational understanding through modules covering neuromusculoskeletal injury, illness, and assessment, manual therapy for neuromusculoskeletal conditions, professional and academic skills for sport rehabilitators, exercise prescription for injury prevention, functional anatomy and physiology, and screening and testing for injury prevention. These modules focus on developing practical skills, anatomical and physiological knowledge, and professional competencies. The second year emphasizes applied practice and research, with modules in sport research methods, mobilisation and exercise for spinal conditions, athlete injury, health and wellbeing management, rehabilitative exercise and programming, screening and conditioning for sport performance, and sport rehabilitation practice. This stage integrates theoretical knowledge with hands-on application, preparing students for professional practice. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics and applied learning, including sports trauma and immediate pitchside care, exercise and conditioning for specific populations, contemporary issues in sport rehabilitation and conditioning, and applied sport rehabilitation practice. The program culminates in a dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research. Throughout the course, students develop critical thinking, professional skills, and practical expertise, preparing them for careers in sports rehabilitation, performance conditioning, health and fitness, or further postgraduate study.
