COURSE CURRICULUM

The Developmental and Educational Psychology BA at the University of Northampton is a three-year program that combines general psychology training with a focus on human development and educational issues. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules such as psychology in practice, introduction to psychology, becoming a psychologist, investigating developmental psychology, positive psychology, and psychology for life. This stage introduces core psychological concepts, research approaches, and key aspects of human development, preparing students for further specialized study. In the second year, the curriculum emphasizes research skills, practical application, and theoretical understanding. Students study research methods and statistics, independent research in developmental and educational psychology, the psychology of learning and teaching in educational settings, biological and cognitive psychology, development and society, and personality and fundamentals of psychology. These modules provide a deeper understanding of developmental processes, educational contexts, and the application of psychological principles. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics such as educational psychology, child and adolescent mental health, and lifespan development. The course culminates in a dissertation in developmental and educational psychology, allowing students to conduct independent research under academic supervision. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, research skills, and practical knowledge, equipping them for careers in educational psychology, clinical psychology, teaching, research, or further postgraduate study.
