COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Physiotherapy degree at the University of Northampton provides a comprehensive, three-year curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with extensive practical experience to prepare students for professional physiotherapy practice. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through compulsory modules covering core professional values, applied functional anatomy and movement, neurological practice, cardiorespiratory practice, neuromusculoskeletal practice, and an introduction to population health, alongside interprofessional education that encourages collaboration across healthcare disciplines. Year two builds on this foundation with three practice placements interspersed with academic modules in rehabilitation, complexity management throughout the lifespan, and evidence-informed practice, allowing students to apply their learning directly in clinical settings. These experiences foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional competence in diverse patient populations. The third year focuses on advanced practice, leadership, and professional development, with two further practice placements complemented by modules in leadership for practice development, enhancing person-centered care, and embedding evidence into practice. Throughout the degree, students are guided to integrate academic knowledge with clinical skills, preparing them to make informed decisions, deliver high-quality patient care, and contribute effectively to multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
