COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mental Health Nursing BSc (Hons) program is a three-year course designed to prepare students for a professional career in supporting individuals with mental health needs. In year one, students are introduced to the core foundations of nursing, including developing their identity as a nurse, understanding professionalism and public protection, and exploring the evidence base that underpins effective care. This is complemented by guided participation in nursing care, allowing students to gain practical experience in clinical environments. In year two, students build on this foundation by strengthening their professional identity and applying their knowledge of nursing standards and patient safety in practice. They also focus on evidence specifically related to mental health nursing, while actively participating in care delivery to enhance their skills and confidence. By year three, students prepare to transition into registered professionals, focusing on accountability, leadership, and advanced clinical competencies. They develop the ability to safely administer and manage medications, lead and coordinate mental health care, and contribute to innovation and improvement in services. Clinical placements remain a central component throughout the program. Overall, the course ensures a progressive development of knowledge, practical skills, and professional values, equipping graduates to provide safe, compassionate, and effective mental health care.
