COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Health Sciences degree is structured over three years, offering a comprehensive exploration of health, disease, and related disciplines. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through compulsory modules such as Health and Healers: Histories of Disease and Disability, Health and Society, Introduction to Physiology, Introduction to Human Nutrition, Concepts of Health, and Global Health. These modules provide an understanding of the historical, social, and scientific aspects of health, emphasizing the interplay between biology, society, and culture. Students develop essential skills in analyzing health concepts, understanding global health challenges, and examining the factors that influence wellbeing. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied and research-based learning through modules in Public Health and Research Methods in Health, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to evaluate health data, design interventions, and engage with evidence-based practice. The third year centers on independent research, culminating in the Health Sciences Dissertation, which allows students to investigate a topic of interest in depth, integrating their learning from previous years. Across the program, students gain a holistic understanding of health and disease, combining theoretical insight with practical application, and developing critical thinking, research, and analytical skills. Graduates are prepared for careers in healthcare, public health, research, and related fields, or further postgraduate study.
