COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Geography degree is structured over three years, providing students with a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and career preparation. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through compulsory modules including Introducing Human Geographies, Geographical Techniques, Geographical Issues in the Majority Global South, The Physical Environment, Geohazards, and A Sustainable Community. These modules cover both human and physical geography, while developing analytical, research, and fieldwork skills. The second year focuses on advanced study and applied learning, with core and compulsory modules such as Issues in Human Geography, the Geography Field Module, and Geographic Information Systems. Students gain hands-on experience in data collection, field research, and spatial analysis, as well as technical proficiency with GIS, an essential tool for modern geographers. In the final year, the emphasis shifts to professional preparation and independent research. Compulsory modules include Career Planning and Employability, which supports students in gaining practical experience and preparing for future employment, and the Geography Dissertation, which allows students to conduct a substantial research project, integrating their knowledge and skills from previous years. Across the program, students benefit from a combination of small-group teaching, fieldwork, technical training, and career-focused support, equipping them with the expertise and confidence to pursue careers or further study in geography and related fields.
