COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Programming degree is structured over three years to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in programming, game development, and technical problem-solving within the computer games industry. In the first year, students develop core skills through compulsory modules including Group Game Project: Fundamentals, Programming 2D Computer Games, Fundamentals of Programming, Programming for Game Engines, Database Design for Computer Games, and Computer Games Architecture and Optimisation. These modules introduce programming principles, software architecture, and practical game development techniques, while fostering teamwork and project-based learning. The second year builds on these skills with more advanced modules such as Indie Games Development, Native Programming and Compilation, Group Game Project: Advanced, Mathematics for Computer Games, 2D Graphics Programming for Computer Games, and Programming 3D Computer Games. Students gain experience in both 2D and 3D game programming, applying mathematical and computational concepts to real-world game projects. In the final year, the focus shifts to professional preparation and specialized skills with modules including Simulation and Dynamics, Group Game Project: Industry Practice, AI for Computer Games, 3D Graphics Programming for Computer Games, Programming Multiplayer Computer Games, and a Games Dissertation. The program culminates in the development of complex, polished projects that integrate technical expertise, creativity, and industry-standard practices, preparing graduates for careers as game programrs or advanced study in the field.
