COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Finance degree at the University of Northampton provides a structured and progressive learning experience across three years. In the first year, students are assigned a personal tutor who offers guidance and support while completing six compulsory modules that establish a strong foundation in accounting, finance, economics, statistics, and quantitative methods. These modules equip students with essential numerical, analytical, and academic skills, preparing them for more advanced study. In the second year, students build on this foundation by studying six compulsory specialist modules covering investment, financial reporting and analysis, risk management, equity and fixed income investments, and ethical and professional standards in finance. This stage introduces students to key subfields of finance and develops their practical and critical thinking skills. The final year focuses on advanced investment topics and allows students to tailor their studies through designated modules in areas such as international finance, economics, and risk management. Core modules in the final year include corporate financial management, alternative investments, asset allocation and investment strategies, and a finance project, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. By the end of the degree, graduates possess comprehensive analytical, technical, and professional skills, preparing them for successful careers in finance and related sectors.
