COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Esports degree at the University of Northampton is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the esports industry, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills. In the first year, students develop a foundation through modules such as Understanding Esports Media, Doing Sport and Exercise Psychology in the Digital Age, Ready, Player One? Gameplay and Academic Skills, Esports Events Fundamentals, Digital Esports Marketing, and Esports Business Fundamentals. These modules equip students with essential knowledge of media, marketing, business, and the psychological aspects of performance, while also enhancing academic and gameplay skills. In the second year, students progress to more specialised areas, including Ready, Player Two? Coaching, Strategy and Analysis for Esports, Esports Event Theory and Design, Casting and Streaming, Sport Business Market Research, and Esports Professional Practice. These modules focus on practical application, allowing students to gain experience in event management, coaching, performance analysis, media production, and industry research. In the final year, students undertake the Esports Development Project, enabling them to synthesise their learning and apply it to a substantial, independent project that mirrors real-world industry scenarios. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience, industry insight, and professional skills, preparing them for careers across esports management, coaching, content creation, broadcasting, and related sectors within the fast-growing digital gaming industry.
