COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Environmental Science degree is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in key scientific and environmental concepts while allowing them to build specialist knowledge as they progress. In the first year, core modules introduce essential areas such as ecology, geohazards, environmental pollution, and the physical environment, alongside practical lab and field skills and an exploration of sustainable communities. In the second year, students develop advanced understanding and technical expertise through modules on environmental law and justice, data technologies, fieldwork, and the impacts of pollution. Designated modules offer opportunities to tailor studies toward specific interests, including biogeography, weather and climate, landscape processes, and terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The final year is research-focused, with a major independent project or dissertation at its core, allowing students to investigate a chosen topic in depth. Alongside this, students can specialize further through modules such as biodiversity and conservation, glacial environments, pollution monitoring and control, water resource management, climate change communication, and monitoring the earth’s surface. This combination of theoretical study, practical skills, and research experience ensures that graduates are well prepared to address contemporary environmental challenges and pursue careers in environmental science, conservation, sustainability, and related fields.
