COURSE CURRICULUM

The Children and Young People’s Nursing BSc (Hons) program is a three-year course designed to develop skilled, compassionate nurses who specialize in caring for infants, children, and young people. In year one, students are introduced to the fundamentals of nursing, focusing on developing their professional identity, understanding nursing ethics and public protection, and exploring the evidence base that underpins practice. This is combined with guided participation in nursing care, allowing students to gain early practical experience in clinical settings. In year two, students build on this foundation by further developing their nursing identity and applying their understanding of professionalism in real-world contexts. They also study evidence specifically related to children and young people’s nursing while actively participating in patient care, enhancing both their confidence and clinical skills. By year three, students prepare to become registered nurses, focusing on accountability, leadership, and advanced competencies. They learn to safely administer medications, lead and coordinate care for young patients, and contribute to innovation and improvement in healthcare services. Clinical placements remain a key part of learning throughout. Overall, the program ensures a progressive development of knowledge, practical skills, and professional values, preparing graduates to deliver safe, effective, and child-centered nursing care.
