COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Biochemistry degree offers a structured three-year program that develops both theoretical understanding and practical skills in the life sciences. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in core scientific disciplines through modules in biochemistry and cell biology, microbiology, genetics and molecular biology, anatomy and physiology, biochemical skills, and chemistry. This ensures a broad grounding in the key principles that underpin biochemistry while also introducing essential laboratory techniques. In Year 2, the course moves into more applied and specialized areas, with modules focusing on bioscience research methods, biochemistry processes, applied chemistry, and molecular and cellular biology. These modules develop deeper insight into biological and chemical processes while enhancing analytical and research abilities. In the final year, students explore advanced topics through clinical biochemistry and contemporary issues in biochemistry, linking molecular science with real-world health and industry applications. A significant part of the final year is dedicated to an independent dissertation, which allows students to conduct original research, apply investigative techniques, and demonstrate critical analysis in a chosen area of biochemistry. This structured progression equips graduates with the knowledge, laboratory competence, and problem-solving skills required for careers in research, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or further academic study.
