COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Artificial Intelligence and Data Science degree at the University of Northampton is structured to provide a progressive learning journey across three years, blending theoretical knowledge with practical application. In Year 1, students are introduced to core concepts in computing through modules in problem solving and programming, mathematics for computer science, computer systems, computer communications, web development, and software engineering fundamentals. This establishes a strong technical foundation in programming, systems, and web technologies. Year 2 builds on these foundations with more advanced study, focusing on relational databases, cloud computing and big data, data structures and algorithms, and an introduction to artificial intelligence. Students also gain practical experience through a group project and further develop their web programming skills, encouraging teamwork and applied problem-solving. In Year 3, the course advances to specialized areas, with modules in natural language processing, media technology, modern databases, and advanced AI applications. The final year also includes a substantial dissertation project, giving students the opportunity to carry out independent research and demonstrate their technical and analytical abilities through a significant applied project. This structure ensures graduates leave with strong programming, analytical, and AI skills, well-prepared for careers in computing, AI, and data-driven industries.
