COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA in Working with Children, Young People, and Families at the University of Northampton is structured over three years, providing a comprehensive approach to supporting children and families in various contexts. In the first year, students cover foundational modules such as promoting emotional wellbeing, advocating for children’s rights, and exploring the dynamics of childhood, youth, and family life. Work-based learning is a core component, giving students practical experience in supporting children and families. Key areas of study also include child development, health, and learning, alongside collaborative work to support children and families. The second year delves into more specialized topics, including safeguarding, special educational needs, and research methods specific to children’s services. Students also explore diversity and inclusion, both in theory and through practical work placements. In the third year, the focus shifts to leadership, management, and innovative approaches in child and family services. Additional modules cover empowering and therapeutic approaches to support children and families, as well as the geographies of childhood and youth. The program culminates in a dissertation, allowing students to research a topic of interest related to their studies. Throughout the degree, students gain the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to make a positive impact in the lives of children, young people, and families.
