COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Product Design course is structured over three years, offering a progressive and hands-on approach to developing design skills and industry knowledge. In the first year, students build foundational abilities through modules such as design thinking, design studio, and design visualisation, focusing on creative problem-solving, conceptual development, and visual communication. The second semester introduces practical application through projects, alongside learning about design for industry and professional practice, enabling students to translate ideas into tangible outcomes. The second year emphasizes technical proficiency and advanced design methods. In the first semester, students explore design for manufacture, 3D modelling and production techniques, and consider future trends in design, while undertaking a technology-focused project. The second semester develops user-centred design approaches, advanced modelling and simulation skills, design business knowledge, and production-based project work, preparing students for the commercial and practical aspects of product design. In the final year, students focus on independent and professional development through a major design project, with dedicated research and enterprise modules in the first semester. The second semester culminates in the completion of the major design project, allowing students to integrate creative, technical, and professional skills. Overall, the course combines conceptual exploration, practical skills, and industry preparation to equip graduates for successful careers in product design.
