COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Education Studies degree provides a comprehensive understanding of education, its history, contexts, and contemporary challenges, preparing students for diverse roles within the field. In the first year, modules such as School: Past, Present and Future, Childhood through Time, and Educational Inequalities introduce students to the foundations of education, while Learning Re-imagined and Understanding Child Development in Education encourage critical engagement with curriculum design and child development theories. Practical experience is gained through the Professional Practice in Educational Settings module, enabling students to apply theory to real-world contexts. In the second year, the focus shifts to broader issues, including Debates in Education, Education in a Diverse Society, and Education and Technology, offering insights into inclusion, diversity, and the growing role of technology in education. Students also explore research skills through Learning Through Education Research and examine education within a global framework. The final year allows for deeper critical analysis through modules such as Education, Culture and Society, Exploring Deviance and Disaffection, and Education, Heritage and Communities, which consider the societal and cultural impacts of education. The course culminates in the Education Studies Dissertation, where students undertake independent research, showcasing their academic development and preparing for careers or further study.
