COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Early Childhood Studies degree offers a structured and progressive curriculum that develops students’ knowledge, skills, and professional practice across three years of study. In the first year, students focus on the foundations of child development, health, and well-being, alongside ethical approaches to working with young children. Modules also include personal, academic, and professional development, as well as practical experience through a compulsory placement, allowing students to apply their learning in real-life settings. The second year builds on this foundation with modules that address key contemporary issues in early childhood, safeguarding and child protection, and special educational needs and disabilities. Students also explore creative and therapeutic approaches to support children’s development and gain further practical experience through professional placements, preparing them to work effectively in diverse and inclusive environments. The final year emphasizes leadership and management in early years settings, research and inquiry in professional contexts, and advanced practitioner skills. Students complete a dissertation that demonstrates their ability to apply theory and research to practice, while also developing their understanding of multi-agency collaboration through interprofessional education. This program provides a comprehensive pathway to careers in early years education, health, and social care, with strong professional and academic grounding.
