COURSE CURRICULUM

The postgraduate midwifery program includes a range of compulsory and optional modules designed to strengthen clinical expertise, leadership capability, and research skills. Core modules include Organisational Leadership and Management, which develops the ability to lead teams, manage services, and contribute to effective healthcare delivery. Spontaneous Labour and Birth explores current evidence, debates, and best practice related to normal labour and birth, supporting informed clinical decision-making. Introduction to Postgraduate Research builds essential research knowledge and critical analysis skills, preparing students for academic and practice-based inquiry. The program culminates in a Dissertation, allowing students to undertake an in-depth investigation of a topic relevant to professional and clinical midwifery practice. Optional modules enable students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. These include Maternal and Child Health in cultural and societal contexts, critical care in pregnancy and childbirth, and leadership-focused quality improvement through the AEQUIP framework. Additional options cover innovative approaches to midwifery education, examination of the newborn, and safeguarding children in an international context. Together, these modules provide a flexible yet comprehensive learning experience that integrates leadership, evidence-based practice, and professional development, preparing graduates to advance midwifery practice and improve outcomes for women, babies, and families.
