COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Pre-Registration Dietetics program equips students with the essential knowledge, skills, and practical experience to work as professional dietitians in healthcare and public health settings. Core modules such as Nutrition Science, Catering and Public Health provide a foundation in nutritional principles, food preparation, and population health, while the Scientific Basis of Dietetics explores the biological, chemical, and physiological underpinnings of human nutrition. Evidence Based Practice develops the ability to critically appraise research and apply scientific evidence to dietetic decision-making, ensuring interventions are safe, effective, and current. Dietetic Professional Practice focuses on developing professional behaviours, communication, and ethical standards required for competent practice. Therapy and Practice in Clinical Dietetics, offered in two parts, provides hands-on clinical experience, allowing students to assess, plan, and implement nutritional care for diverse patient populations under supervision. The Research Project or Service Evaluation module encourages independent investigation and critical thinking, enabling students to contribute to the evidence base in dietetics or evaluate service delivery to improve patient outcomes. Throughout the program, students gain confidence in working with multidisciplinary teams, applying practical skills, and making informed decisions in complex clinical and community contexts. Graduates emerge fully prepared to meet professional standards, register as dietitians, and make meaningful contributions to health and wellbeing across multiple settings.
