COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Social Research Methods course includes a set of compulsory modules that provide a comprehensive foundation in research design, methodology, and analysis. The Research Methods module introduces students to key approaches and techniques for conducting rigorous social research, covering both qualitative and quantitative methods. Research in Practice allows learners to apply these techniques to practical scenarios, developing the skills needed to investigate real-world social issues. Research, Ethics and Governance emphasizes the ethical and regulatory frameworks that guide responsible research, ensuring students understand their professional obligations when working with vulnerable populations or sensitive data. Statistical and Quantitative Analysis in Community Practice equips students with the skills to analyze numerical data, interpret findings, and draw evidence-based conclusions. Themes and Perspectives in Social Research explores the theoretical underpinnings of research, enabling students to critically evaluate methodologies and their implications. Designing and Planning Your Research Project: Methods and Methodology guides students in structuring and preparing their own research studies, from conceptualization through implementation. The MSc Dissertation serves as the culmination of the course, allowing students to undertake an independent, in-depth research project that integrates theoretical knowledge, methodological expertise, and analytical skills. Collectively, these modules prepare graduates for careers in academic research, social policy, consultancy, and other roles that require advanced social research capabilities.
