COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Data Science course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of data science concepts, tools, and methodologies, equipping them with the skills to analyse, interpret, and visualise complex datasets. Core modules such as Data Concepts, Ethics and Governance introduce the principles of responsible data handling, legal frameworks, and ethical considerations, ensuring students understand the societal and professional implications of their work. Computational Maths and Statistics develop essential analytical techniques for processing and interpreting data accurately. Machine Learning and Data Mining focus on applying algorithms to detect patterns, make predictions, and derive actionable insights from large datasets. Programming for the Data Scientist equips students with the practical skills needed to implement data-driven solutions using modern programming languages and software tools. The Big Data (Tools and Techniques) module provides hands-on experience with managing and analysing large-scale data systems, while Data Investigation and Visualisation teaches students how to communicate findings effectively through graphs, dashboards, and interactive reporting. The master’s project allows students to integrate their learning in a substantial, independent research or applied data project, demonstrating their ability to solve real-world problems.
