COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) is a comprehensive five-year program designed to prepare students for professional veterinary practice while meeting RCVS Day 1 competencies. In the first year, students undertake Veterinary Core 1, developing a holistic understanding of how animals function, their interactions with the environment, and the relationship between humans and animals, while cultivating a professional ethic. The second year, Veterinary Core 2, builds on this foundation with practical skills in animal handling, clinical examination, and medicine administration, alongside a One Health perspective addressing animal-related social issues. Year three focuses on Veterinary Clinical Integration, enhancing clinical communication, patient history-taking, diagnostic reasoning, and clinical skills using models. Students deepen their understanding of pathology, evidence-based medicine, research methods, and biostatistics, integrating the One Health approach. In the fourth year, Veterinary Clinical Consolidation allows students to apply prior knowledge in real clinical contexts, managing diverse pathological presentations and diseases across domestic and exotic species while developing advanced practical and professional skills. The final year, Veterinary Clinical Application, prepares students for graduate practice by providing hands-on experience in real-life clinical environments, including on-the-job training and assessments across all common species. Graduates leave the program fully equipped with the knowledge, clinical expertise, and professional competencies required for a successful career as veterinary surgeons in a wide range of settings.
