COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with Criminology degree is structured over three years to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of criminal behaviour, the justice system, and psychological processes. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Interrogating the ‘Crime’ Problem, Cognitive and Biological Psychology with Analytical Skills, Developmental and Social Psychology with Analytical Skills, and Psychology: Past, Present and Future. These modules introduce core psychological concepts, analytical skills, and an understanding of crime and its social context. The second year builds on this foundation with modules including Victims, Vulnerabilities and Trauma-Informed Responses, Advanced Cognitive and Biological Psychology with Quantitative Methods, Principles of Forensic and Criminal Psychology, and Advanced Social and Developmental Psychology with Qualitative Methods. Students gain insight into the psychological and social factors influencing criminal behaviour while learning evidence-based approaches to understanding and supporting victims. In the third year, students consolidate their knowledge and practical skills through Lived Experience of the Justice System, Psychology in Action: Research, Practice and Individual Differences, Kickstart Your Career: Work Placement and Preparing for Graduate Employment, and the Applied Psychology Project. These modules offer hands-on experience, research opportunities, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers in forensic psychology, criminal investigation, probation services, law enforcement, or further postgraduate study, with the skills to analyse crime and criminal behaviour from both psychological and criminological perspectives.
