COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology (Clinical & Mental Health) degree is structured over three years, with an optional placement year, to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of psychological theory, research, and applied practice. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through modules such as Cognitive and Biological Psychology with Analytical Skills, Real-world Psychology, Developmental and Social Psychology with Analytical Skills, and Psychology: Past, Present and Future. These modules introduce core concepts in cognitive, social, and developmental psychology while developing analytical and research skills. The second year advances students’ knowledge through modules like Advanced Cognitive and Biological Psychology with Quantitative Methods and Advanced Social and Developmental Psychology with Qualitative Methods, alongside optional modules that allow specialization in areas such as Clinical and Mental Health Psychology, Forensic and Criminal Psychology, Child Development, and Neuropsychology. An optional placement year provides practical experience, enabling students to apply their learning in real-world mental health settings. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge and skills through modules including Psychology in Action: Research, Practice and Individual Differences, Kickstart Your Career: Work Placement and Preparing for Graduate Employment, Applied Psychology Project, and Clinical Psychology: Theory, Practice and Application. The program integrates theoretical knowledge with practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in clinical psychology, mental health support, research, or further postgraduate study, and equipping them to make meaningful contributions to mental health and wellbeing.
