COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Policing, Law Enforcement and Investigation course is structured over three years, combining compulsory and optional modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of policing, investigative practices, and the criminal justice system. In the first year, students focus on foundational knowledge through modules such as the History of Criminal Justice, Introduction to Academic Skills, Digital Investigation Technologies, Introduction to Investigation Skills, and Introduction to Law and Enforcement. These modules equip students with essential academic, legal, and technical skills needed for effective investigation. The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced study in Digital Investigation, Academic Skills 2, Introduction to Vulnerability, and Investigation Skills 2, while also allowing students to select optional modules such as Youth Justice, Punishment and the Penal System, or Multi-Agency Partnerships to tailor their learning to specific interests. In the third year, students deepen their expertise through Investigation Skills 3, Advanced Digital Investigation, and a substantial Project, giving them practical experience in applying investigative techniques. Optional modules in the final year, including Gender, Crime and Justice, Prison and Society, Fraud and Asset Recovery, Counter Terrorism, and Investigating Exploitation, allow students to explore specialized areas of policing and justice. Overall, the course integrates theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and critical analysis, preparing graduates for diverse careers in law enforcement, intelligence, and the wider criminal justice sector.
