COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physics degree provides a thorough understanding of the principles and applications of physics, preparing students for careers in science, research, engineering, or further study. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in physics and mathematics through modules such as Fundamentals of Physics, Applied and Computational Physics, Functions, Vectors and Calculus, and Astrophysics I. These modules develop analytical, problem-solving, and computational skills essential for scientific inquiry. In the second year, the course progresses to Principles of Physics, Properties of Matter, Measurement, Instrumentation, LabVIEW and Interfacing, Ordinary Differential Equations, and practical laboratory work, enabling students to connect theory with experimental techniques. The final year focuses on advanced physics topics including Condensed Matter and Surface Physics, and a Physics/Astronomy Project, complemented by the Third Year Laboratory and a UAS Teaching Placement, which provide opportunities for hands-on research and professional skill development. Optional modules, such as Nuclear and Particle Physics, Atomic Physics and Advanced Quantum Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Plasma and Solar Physics, and Partial Differential Equations and Integral Transforms, allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career ambitions. The program equips graduates with strong theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and research skills necessary to excel in a wide range of scientific and technical fields.
