COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Pharmacology degree offers a comprehensive exploration of the science behind drugs and their interactions with the human body, preparing students for careers in biomedical research, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in the fundamentals of biosciences, covering essential biological concepts, laboratory skills, and practical applications that underpin pharmacology. This year focuses on equipping students with the analytical, experimental, and scientific skills necessary for higher-level study. In the second year, the curriculum advances to more specialised modules such as bioscience practical skills, molecules to cells, and physiology and pharmacology, providing both theoretical understanding and hands-on laboratory experience. These modules enable students to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms of drugs, their physiological effects, and the principles of pharmacological intervention. In the third and final year, students engage in in-depth study through a research project and advanced modules including drug development, neuropharmacology, and advanced therapies. This combination of independent research and specialised study allows students to apply their knowledge to contemporary challenges in pharmacology, including the development of new therapeutic strategies, understanding disease mechanisms, and evaluating drug efficacy and safety.
