COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics degree provides a structured yet flexible pathway for students to develop a strong foundation in mathematical theory, applied techniques, and statistical analysis. In the first year, students study core modules including algebra, linear algebra, real analysis, calculus, vectors, applied mathematics, computational mathematics, and probability and statistics, equipping them with essential analytical and problem-solving skills. The second year builds on this foundation, introducing advanced topics such as algebraic structures and ordinary differential equations, while offering optional modules that allow students to explore areas like cryptology, further real analysis, vector calculus, numerical methods, and further statistics. This combination of compulsory and optional modules enables students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. In the final year, students consolidate their knowledge through a mathematics project and a UAS teaching placement, providing practical experience and the opportunity to engage in independent research. Additional optional modules in the third year include coding theory, complex analysis, partial differential equations and integral transforms, fluid dynamics, mathematical biology, and time series and operational research, allowing further specialization. Graduates gain strong quantitative, analytical, and research skills, preparing them for careers in finance, data science, education, research, and other fields requiring high-level mathematical proficiency, or for further postgraduate study.
