COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science course provides a structured pathway that combines theoretical knowledge in biosciences with extensive clinical training. In the first year, students focus on foundational learning through modules such as Fundamentals of Biosciences, Essential Skills in Biosciences, and Biosciences in Practice, which introduce core scientific concepts and laboratory techniques. The second year advances these skills with practical modules including Bioscience Practical Skills, Biology of Disease, and Molecules to Cells, along with a Placement and Professional Practice module that gives students early exposure to healthcare environments. In the final year, the emphasis shifts to advanced clinical and research-based learning. Students undertake a Research Project and study specialised subjects such as Clinical Microbiology, Cellular Pathology, Blood Sciences, and Genetic Sciences for Healthcare Science. The year also includes an extensive 40-week clinical placement, allowing students to apply their academic learning in real-world healthcare settings and gain professional experience essential for NHS or laboratory-based roles. This comprehensive course prepares graduates for careers in clinical science, diagnostics, and research, equipping them with the scientific understanding, technical expertise, and practical experience needed to contribute effectively to patient care and medical innovation.
