COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Science course provides a comprehensive education in the principles and practices of forensic investigation, equipping students with the scientific knowledge and practical skills required for a career in this specialised field. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through compulsory modules such as Crime Scene Science, Academic Skills, Bodies of Evidence, Forensic Laboratory Analysis, and Forensic Scientific Principles. These modules introduce students to evidence collection, laboratory techniques, and the scientific concepts that underpin forensic practice. The second year advances these skills with modules like Forensic Casework, Professional Practice, Research for Forensic Investigators, and Major Crimes – The Evidence, enabling students to analyse complex cases and engage with real-world investigative challenges. Optional modules including Molecular Biology, Forensic Chemical Analysis, and Forensic Anthropology allow students to specialise in areas of personal or professional interest. In the final year, students focus on higher-level analysis and independent research through The Interpretation of Forensic Evidence and the Forensic Science Dissertation, while additional optional modules such as Death Sciences, Forensic Toxicology and Chemical Investigations, Forensic Genetics, Applied Forensic Anthropology, and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) provide opportunities to tailor the degree to specific career paths. Graduates leave prepared for roles in forensic laboratories, law enforcement, investigative agencies, and scientific analysis positions requiring expertise in evidence collection, interpretation, and application.
