COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Facilities Management course equips students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary for a career in managing and maintaining buildings and services in a sustainable and efficient way. In the first year, students develop a solid foundation through modules covering construction technology, sustainability and science, management and economics, law and procurement, and professional practice, alongside an interdisciplinary project that introduces real-world challenges. The second year builds on this knowledge with more specialised modules, including construction technology 2, building services, production economics, contract administration, management and project planning, health and safety management, and professional practice focused on construction project management. These modules provide students with practical insights into coordinating and managing facilities operations while ensuring compliance with legal, economic, and safety requirements. In the final year, students focus on advanced aspects of facilities management, including maintenance management, facilities management principles, project analysis and appraisal, business practice and law, and a dissertation that allows for in-depth research and application of learned skills. Optional modules offer further specialisation, including project management and BIM, building conservation, and professional practice. Graduates are prepared for careers in facilities management, operations, and sustainability roles across commercial, public, and private sectors, equipped with the analytical, managerial, and problem-solving abilities needed to lead in a fast-changing industry.
