COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Cyber Security program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of protecting information systems, networks, and digital assets from cyber threats. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation through compulsory modules such as The Computing Challenge, Introduction to Networking, Programming, Computer Systems and Security, Systems Analysis and Database Design, and Web Technologies. These modules introduce fundamental concepts in computing, networking, programming, and system security, preparing students for more advanced studies. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules including The Agile Professional, Information Security Management, Advanced Programming with C++, Network Management, Digital Evidence and Incident Response, and Cyber Security. Students learn to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities, manage network systems, respond to cyber incidents, and apply security protocols in practical contexts. In Year 3, the focus shifts to advanced skills and independent research with modules such as Honours Degree Project, Secure Software and Malware Analysis, Penetration Testing, and Advanced Cyber Security, providing hands-on experience in tackling complex cyber challenges. Optional modules like Wireless and Mobile Networks and Cloud Computing allow students to specialise in emerging areas of the field. Throughout the course, practical labs, case studies, and project work enhance analytical thinking, problem-solving, and professional competence. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, network security, digital forensics, and related roles, combining technical expertise with critical analysis to address contemporary cyber threats effectively.
