COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy program provides a structured and comprehensive pathway for students to develop the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence required to become effective counsellors. In Year 1, students build a foundational understanding through modules such as The Human Being in Context, Learning to Learn for Psychological Therapies, Introduction to Mental Health and Wellbeing, Introduction to Communication and Interpersonal Skills, and Key Issues in Counselling and Psychotherapy. These modules introduce core concepts in human development, mental health, communication, and the principles of counselling and psychotherapy. Year 2 develops practical and analytical skills through modules including Research Design and Process, Contemporary Pluralistic Theory and Practice, New Frontiers in Counselling and Psychotherapy, Public Health and Behaviour Change, and Personal Development. Students gain insight into pluralistic therapeutic approaches, evidence-based practice, and strategies for behaviour change while reflecting on their professional growth. In Year 3, the curriculum emphasizes advanced practice, research, and clinical experience with modules such as Advanced Pluralistic Counselling Practice, Dissertation in Counselling, Coaching and Psychological Interventions, Practice Placement, Personal Development, and Mental Health Care: The Broader Context. Students apply their learning in supervised settings, develop specialised counselling skills, and critically engage with mental health practice. Graduates are prepared for professional roles as counsellors or psychotherapists and are equipped for further postgraduate study, combining practical experience, research competence, and professional insight to work effectively across diverse therapeutic settings.
