COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computing program provides a comprehensive education in computing principles, practical applications, and emerging technologies, preparing students for careers in commercial, industrial, and technology-driven environments. In Year 1, students build a foundation through compulsory modules including The Computing Challenge, Introduction to Networking, Programming, Computer Systems and Security, Systems Analysis and Database Design, and Web Technologies, developing essential technical skills and an understanding of computing systems. Year 2 focuses on applied computing, professional practice, and user-centered design with modules such as The Agile Professional, Database Systems, Web Applications, and User Experience, while optional modules in areas like Advanced Programming with C++, Computational Thinking, Network Management, Digital Evidence and Incident Response, and Cyber Security allow further specialization. In Year 3, students consolidate their knowledge and experience through compulsory modules including Cloud Computing and the Honours Degree Project, which provide opportunities for independent research, practical application, and problem-solving in realistic contexts. Optional modules such as Cross-Platform Development, Interacting with the Internet of Things, Secure Software and Malware Analysis, Wireless and Mobile Networks, Distributed Systems, Penetration Testing, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Cyber Security, and Data Science enable students to tailor their learning to emerging industry needs. Throughout the program, students engage in hands-on projects, collaborative exercises, and professional practice, developing analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in software development, cybersecurity, IT consultancy, network management, and other technology-focused roles, combining practical experience with advanced technical knowledge.
