COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Clinical Dental Technology program provides a comprehensive education in the theory, practice, and professional standards required to become a qualified clinical dental technician. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge through the Health Prevention and Technical Skills module, learning the scientific, clinical, and professional principles necessary for safe practice. This includes infection control, craniofacial development, oral health, legal standards, and the principles of biomechanically sound prosthodontic devices, while combining dental laboratory skills with patient-centred prosthodontic care. Year 2 builds on these foundations with the Early Dental Disease and Complex Technical Skills module, where students learn to assess, design, and manufacture prosthetic devices that comply with health, safety, and regulatory standards. Emphasis is placed on understanding oral diseases, dental materials, prosthodontic and orthodontic devices, evidence-based practice, clinical judgement, teamwork, and patient-centred treatment planning, alongside developing professional communication skills in clinical and laboratory environments. In Year 3, the Holistic Patient Care and Technical Skills module focuses on advanced practice, including restorative care, dental implants, tooth whitening, infection management, and medical emergencies. Students apply evidence-based approaches to disease prevention, health promotion, and patient care while enhancing professional skills, communication, and reflective practice. Graduates are fully prepared to provide high-quality, patient-focused dental care in line with General Dental Council standards, combining technical proficiency with clinical and professional competence.
