COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Astrophysics course provides a comprehensive understanding of the physical principles governing the universe, combining theoretical learning with experimental and computational skills. In Year 1, students are introduced to the core foundations through modules such as Astrophysics I, Fundamentals of Physics, Applied and Computational Physics, and Functions, Vectors and Calculus. These establish a strong base in physics and mathematics essential for studying celestial phenomena. Year 2 advances this knowledge with modules including Astrophysics II, Principles of Physics, Properties of Matter, and Ordinary Differential Equations, alongside hands-on learning in the Second Year Laboratory, where students apply theory through experiments and data analysis. In the final year, the program deepens focus on advanced topics like the Formation, Structure and Evolution of Stars, Cosmology and Galaxies, and includes a major Physics or Astronomy Project to develop independent research skills. Students can also undertake a UAS Teaching Placement for practical experience and choose from optional modules such as Nuclear and Particle Physics, Atomic Physics, Electrodynamics, Plasma and Solar Physics, and advanced mathematics topics. Overall, the course blends rigorous scientific training with problem-solving and analytical skills, preparing graduates for research, technical, and scientific careers in astrophysics or related disciplines.
