COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Archaeology and Anthropology program offers a three-year curriculum that combines the study of human evolution, culture, and material remains to provide a comprehensive understanding of past and present societies. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as The Archaeology of Britain, History of Archaeological Thought, Bones, Bodies and Burial, Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, and Field Archaeology 1, which introduce key concepts in archaeology and anthropology while providing practical fieldwork experience. The second year builds on this foundation with Forensic Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology in Theory and Practice, Field Archaeology 2, and Archaeological Materials, alongside optional modules such as Hunter-Gatherers: Past and Present, Geomatics, and the Archaeology and Anthropology of Animals, allowing students to explore specialized areas of interest. The final year emphasizes advanced research and professional development through a Dissertation, Debates in Anthropology, and additional optional modules including Field Archaeology 3, Applied Forensic Anthropology, and World Archaeology and Art. Throughout the program, students gain practical skills in excavation, laboratory analysis, and the interpretation of human and material evidence, while developing critical thinking, communication, and analytical abilities. Graduates emerge well-prepared for careers in archaeology, cultural heritage, research, and related fields, with a strong foundation in both theoretical understanding and applied practice.
